Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 11 January
2015) was a Swedish actress, who was active in American and European films,
famous for her beauty and stunning body. Her role as Sylvia in Federico
Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) has made her a household name. Ekberg
mostly worked in Italy which she later made her permanent residence in 1964.
Anita Ekberg was the eighth child in a family of eight. Anita worked as fashion
model in her teenage years. Ekberg participated in the Miss Malmo competition
in 1950 on the advice of her mother. It led to her being her being selected for
the Miss Sweden contest which she won. Even though she spoke little English
Ekberg traveled to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe 1951
title. This was an official pageant in the year 1951. The pageant became
officially recognized in 1952. Ekberg was not the winner of the Miss Universe
pageant. However she was among six finalists. Universal Studios offered her an
exclusive starlet contract. She was a Universal starlet and received lessons in
dramatization, elocution and horseback
riding, fencing and elocution. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi
Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953),
and The Golden Blade (53).
