Jennifer Leann Carpenter (born December 7, 1979) is an American actress. She is best known for her character Debra Morgan on Showtime's Dexter. In 2009, she was awarded the Saturn Award. Also, she was recognized for her role as Rebecca Harris on CBS's Limitless. She was cast as Erica Shepherd, a leading part in the NBC drama The Enemy Within. Carpenter first attracted critical attention with her role in The Exorcism of Emily Rose. She was awarded the 2006 MTV Movie Award for "Best Frightened Performance", and also received an "Hollywood Life Breakthrough Award". In 2006, at the Scream Awards, she was named "Breakout Actor". In 2007, she began dating her Dexter co-star Michael C. Hall. They got married in California on New Year's Eve 2008. Hall and Carpenter released a December 2010 statement announcing they filed for divorce after having been separated for "for some time". The divorce was approved in December of 2011 because of unresolved disagreements. But they remain close friends. Carpenter and Seth Avett became engaged on February 10 in 2015. Carpenter, who was eight-and half months pregnant at the time she filmed the pilot of Limitless and had her son in May of 2015. Carpenter and Avett were married in May 2016.
